Given the extent of the changes, this applies to the whole game, not exclusively the third semester. Anything not in Persona 5 that wasn't discussed or seen in marketing, interviews, or Famitsu scans.
I also liked his boss battle (phase one) - it forces you to be clever with planning out attacks across mulitple characters, make judicious use of the baton passing mechanic, and juggle party members carefully to manage your SP. Everyone else the Thieves take on is just a total dick, Maruki is someone who empathizes with the cast and deliberately meets them on their level to negotiate and plead for his vision. He has interesting motivations, and his inteactions with the rest of the cast totally stand out from the interactions with the other enemies. He's by far the most multi-dimensional, compelling villain the Phantom Thieves (or the Derps McGee in my case) went up against.
Outside of progressing Sumire's confidant and story progression tasks, I was kind of bored. It was kind of nice to spend time with confidants I had neglected, but I had neglected them for a reason. The extra development Akechi gets was excellent, the Sumire twist was a complete surprise and added a lot of depth to her character, and Maruki is the best villain of the game by far.The bad parts: by the time I got to the third semester I had already maxed out my social stats and the confidants I cared about.
The game got everything right: The story, the soundtrack, the combat, level design, and the little complaints that I have get overshadowed by all the good things that the game has. Also, the soundtrack man, the soundtrack is so fucking good, I mean every song is good, and I really love how the songs with lyrics talk about the struggles that the characters go through, I mean that makes them even more enjoyable, I appreciate how much thought went into making them, and from now on, Life Will Change 2 has become my favorite song of the game, despite the fact that It's played only 2 times during the game (The second one in the 'checkmate' cutscene). The story and writing is so well made, they truly made me care about the characters, and some of the story lines really impacted me.
There are less night-time confidants than daytime ones, so you generally have a lot more free time at night than day-time (daytime is party members + Shinya + Maruki). Yoshida is also better to do fairly early since he gives free Charm.Ohya should be easy. There just isn't much time for you to get 8 ranks even though he's guaranteed to go up every time you hang out. His last day is November 17th and he's only available on a few nights a week (apparently 4, so might just barely be possible).

In particular, I loved how the adults (who were not villains), were shown to be well-meaning though fallible. Until the 3rd semester, I didn't feel that any of the palaces or storylines hit the same emotional highs as the first two palaces, but overall this was a strong effort throughout.A game like this lives or dies by its supporting cast, and in that aspect, I think P5R mostly succeeds. My favorites of all time are KOTOR, Metal Gear Solid 3, Uncharted 2, Portal 2, and Mass Effect 2.While it had its ups and downs, for a 120 hour story I found that the themes, plot developments, and even the English voice acting remained of remarkably high quality throughout. I trend towards shorter, story-driven games. The battle system is a chore and I really couldn't get into the characters either.Part 2 however I really enjoyed, while still pretty old I think they've aged better.First off, I am not a JRPG player. I don't think it's held up very well.
